Oh my goodness!

I booted up my computer this morning and went straight to Polyvore. I clicked on the contest and.... I got first place!! Click here to see the results... I can't get over that. At least I didn't run around the house screaming, I won! I won!

Oh, and second place: that's my sister. Check out her blog, diaryofdelaney.blogspot.com
Her set is pretty neat. I think she made that template.
Have a good Sunday and a nice Amelia Earhart's day... Cousins day... ah! Parents day...
Yesterday was Vanilla Ice Cream day. Did you eat any vanilla ice cream? I did, but I just found out about the holiday a second ago. There was something in my heart saying, "Lexie! Eat some vanilla ice cream!" Just kidding.  Well, have a good day.

Sibling Rivalry!!

I now know the definition of sibling rivalry: "Polyvore contest where the only people who have entered are me, this other person, and my sister which equals about ten entries and the contest ends tomorrow I think and my sister and I probably have the biggest chance of winning". There's no prize, like the big crazy Polyvore-hosted contests giving away fancy-schmancy Chanel handbags or $500 shopping sprees, but there's still a lot of tension. Ahh! I'm so scared. I mean, my sister's older and has more fashion sense, not that the contest is limited to fashion. But she checks out fashion books at the library and actually reads them! I'm the little sis that checks out cookbooks and loves creaming butter and sugar together in a mixing bowl. So what chance do I have of winning? I ponder this while planning a house on SketchUp. Poor me.

The Particular Sadness of Lemon Cake by Aimee Bender

Title: The Particular Sadness of Lemon Cake
Author: Aimee Bender
Pages: 304

Nine-year-old Rose Edelstein discovers her ability to taste people's emotions in the food that they cook when her mother bakes her a lemon-chocolate cake for her birthday. Rose can taste her mother's sadness, worry, stress, and guilt in her food over the next decade. She uncovers her family's secrets, such as her mother's affair with a mysterious man, her father's separation from the family, her brother's constant privacy. Rose keeps it a secret as much as she can, except from George, her brother's charming, sweet friend.

I would really recommend this book to those who love food, who love drama, and who love science-fiction-without-being-creepy. Is that a genre?

The one part I didn't get was the end. If you don't want me to ruin it, don't look at the next paragraph.

I'll give you a second to look away.

Ready? Okay.

What happened to Joseph and the chair? Was his leg gone?  Am I missing something?

Okay. I'm done.
So I think it's 3.5 stars. Read it!
Happy Thursday.

Oh, I forgot. It's also Cow Appreciation Day. Hug a cow!

p.s. It's also Tapioca Pudding Day. Feed tapioca to a cow?

The Ropemaker by Peter Dickinson

Title: The Ropemaker
Author: Peter Dickinson
Pages: 375

I finished this book a few days ago and it was actually pretty good. I would rate it pretty high, but the pages were big and the print was small.

The story begins when Tilja's mother goes to sing to the cedars, magical trees in a magical forest. This has been the tradition for 20 generations-- men sing to the snows and women sing to the cedars. This protects the valley from the feared Empire. But soon the magic begins to wear off, so Tilja, her grandmother Meena, Tahl, and his blind grandfather Alnor set off to find the magician who first cast the bonds. Faheel.

They face many challenges along the way, including being kidnapped, threatened, and almost killed, but soon they find the magician so peace may be restored. If they can find the young magician who can protect the  Valley in the twenty generations to come, they might be able to return home safe.

I guess that wasn't the best review I've ever written, but it was a pretty good book. It's so complicated to explain everything! It's detailed, thoughtful, mysterious, adventurous, and dramatic. You really have to be willing to concentrate and focus on it. It's hard to follow at times.
Great book! 3.5 stars, maybe.

Happy... Wednesday. I can't believe I had to just look at my calendar for that. Sheesh!

i'm still the same.

I've given the blog a makeover! It's now not just food, but all about fashion, family, baking, crafts-- I figured that now I'll have a wide expanse of topics to write about. So I'll be posting about everything I can think of.

Enter www.polyvore.com. Polyvore is my world of fashion, and I'm not alone with millions of other women and girls (maybe some fashion loving guys out there, too) who express their feelings through interior design, art, and fashion sets. I always looked at my sister in envy as she posted her sets onto her blog, diaryofdelaney.blogspot.com. So I guess I can do that now, too. Enough about Polyvore. I have to finish this post!

I'd love to talk more, but it's nearing dinnertime and I'm finding a recipe for baby artichokes. I'll have to blog all about that tomorrow...

In case you're wondering...

I'll probably be changing my blog background a lot over the next couple of weeks. I just can't decide what to use! So in case there's a new background every day you come (if anyone does come), don't worry.
Don't forget your healthy daily dose of food and cooking.
Bye for now!
